Join now online! Go to our "Contact Us" page and send us an email and we'll get you started. In the meantime just think of some of the things you can offer the network. Are you willing to be involved in working bees to earn Units? Can you teach a skill? General labouring? Gardening? Home maintenance? Can you help with computers? Have you got a car? Can you give people who don't a lift to the shops and back? All these are potential ways you can earn Units. Go for it!

What is LETS?

LETS is an acronym for Local Employment (or Exchange or Energy) Trading System. LETS operate throughout the world. LETS are a means of formalising non monetary trading of goods and services at the local community level.

The trading unit of BrisLETS is the Unit. Units can be traded, saved and used to purchase goods and services.

LETS systems helps you to meet like minded community members and access a network of friendly, generous, caring people who value trading locally in just about anything.

Members include :- labourers, cooks, builders, child carers, permaculture designers, natural therapists, computer experts, music/singing tuitors, metal engineers, conflict resolution facillitators, electricians, gardeners, listeners, mechanics, organic producers, yoga instructors, artists, shop minders, pet carers, lifestyle councillors and a trading post/shop.

Administration of LETS, including co-ordination, membership, transactions and accounts is done by LETS members who are paid in Units for these jobs. Regular newsletters are produced and past copies are available here. Account statements are produced and will soon be available to members on this website.

The new Community Exchange System (CES)

As you are probably aware, there have been a few changes to the way Brisbane Lets operates.

These include changes to the system of recording member information and communicating with members. We have become part of the South African New Economy (SANE), Community Exchange System (CES) which has groups in South Africa (22), New Zealand (19), Australia (16), United States (11), Vanuatu (4) Israel (3), Canada (3), Argentine (1), India (3), International (2) United Kingdom (1) Ireland (1), Norway (1) and Zimbabwe (1). These are all linked through the computerised system so inter-group trading is possible. Just think of the opportunities this presents to potential travellers to any of these countries.

Those of you for whom we have email addresses will have received your Account number and password to the site www.ces.org.za, where you can view and edit your personal details and resources, check your unit balance, see who offers what resources, see how to contact other members and other systems and you can enter those transactions where you were the seller of the service. Those without internet access can continue as you have in the past by sending your transaction slips to the Transaction Bookkeeper, Brisbane Lets, PO Box 589, Fortitude Valley, 4066 and it will be processed as in the past.

Your Account number is BLCE followed your four digit membership number (eg member number 95’s Account number is BLCE0095, 138 is BLCE0138 and 1326 is BLCE1326 etc.).
